Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We are busy preparing for Christmas, sermon for Sunday, a Christmas Eve Eve service Sunday evening, caroling in the park on Saturday, and Christmas Day Dinner. Wow, I'm tired already.

I pray each of you have a great Christmas and thanks for being there for us during this year.

In my reading this week I read from The Sower:

PLANNING AHEAD
It was the Sunday before Christmas and the teacher of the fifth grade class was reviewing the details of the birth of Jesus. With carefully chosen words she talked about the difficult journey to Bethlehem. Then she said with sadness, “And when they arrived, there was no room for them in the inn.
Wasn’t that terrible?”
George, after thinking for a moment about the vacations his family had taken and the plans they made said without thinking, “Why didn’t Joseph make a reservation?”

There will be many around us during this holiday season who will make no room - no reservation - for Jesus to be with them once again this year. We often remind each other that “He’s the reason for the Season” but do not take time to explain to what that reason is. We are quick to condemn those who want to take “Christ out of Christmas” but do not take time to plant the message of Christ in their minds and hearts. We place the manger scene under the tree, cover it with presents and then wrap it back up and forget about His birth and its significance for another year.

Hanging next to Jesus on a cross was a thief who was dying for crimes he committed. In his final moments he turned to Him and said, “Jesus, remember me.”
And Jesus said, “I will. Today you will be with me in paradise.”

Today is the best day to make your reservation to be with Him if you have not done so.

Scripture for Today: Luke 2:1-7 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
LaVon and I love you and are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Without any of these we could not continue what God has called us to do and that is to share the Living Water with the world through the RV ministry..

Have a great day, love you, pass it on.

PS. Just wanted to share a beautiful gift that we received from God, our Creator, last evening...

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We continue our work here in Apache Junction, Arizona and God continues to be faithful. We had around 50 in church Sunday, praise the Lord. Our thanks to each of you for you prayers and support.

My sermon this week is on Hope.

Christmas Gift Revelation

In his book, Dare to Believe, Dan Baumann illustrates the unique experience of knowing that something is ours, yet longing to enjoy it more fully. He explained that at Christmas time he would always do a lot of snooping, trying to find the gift-wrapped presents and figure out what was in them.
One year he discovered a package with his name on it that was easy to identify. There was no way to disguise the golf clubs inside. Baumann then made this observation: "When Mom wasn't around, I would go and feel the package, shake it, and pretend that I was on the golf course. The point is, I was already enjoying the pleasures of a future event; namely, the unveiling. It had my name on it. I knew what it was."

But only "Christmas would reveal it in its fullness."

The glories that await the Christian defy our comprehension. What we can grasp about them, however, fills us with great anticipation. We look longingly to that day when we shall enjoy heaven in all its fullness.

Colossians 3:1 - 2 (ASV)
1 If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God.
2 Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth.

LaVon and I love you and are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Without any of these we could not continue what God has called us to do and that is to share the Living Water with the world through the RV ministry.

Have a great day, love you, pass it on.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We continue our work here in Apache Junction, Arizona and God continues to be faithful. Still experiencing small crowds in worship service on Sunday morning, but we trust that God will give the increase and we trust that those attending are being encouraged and challenged.

My sermon this week is on laughter. I think during the stressful time of the season we need a little laughter.

THE HEALING POWER OF LAUGHTER

Norman Cousins tells of being hospitalized with a rare, crippling disease. When he was diagnosed as incurable, Cousins checked out of the hospital. Aware of the harmful effects that negative emotions can have on the body, Cousins reasoned the reverse was true. So he borrowed a movie projector and prescribed his own treatment, consisting of Marx Brothers films and old "Candid Camera" reruns.
It didn’t take long for him to discover that 10 minutes of laughter provided two hours of pain free sleep. Amazingly, his debilitating disease was eventually reversed. After the account of his victory appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, Cousins received more than 3000 letters from appreciative physicians throughout the world.

"In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed." ~ Kahlil Gibran

A glad heart maketh a cheerful countenance; But by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.
Proverbs 15:13 (ASV)

LaVon and I love you and are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Without any of these we could not continue what God has called us to do and that is to share the Living Water with the world through the RV ministry.

Have a great day, love you, pass it on.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We had 42 in church Sunday. God continues to be faithful. Our thanks to each of you for your prayers and support.

Our computer has been ailing again so this post is a little late. Forgive me. I pray you all had a great Thanksgiving.

In my reading this week was this:

God's Love

TO WHOEVER FINDS THIS...I LOVE YOU

Several years ago there was a girl in an orphanage. She was unattractive and had mannerisms that were not very attractive either, and so she was disliked and shunned by the other children and was not liked by her teachers. The head of the institution looked for a reason to send her off to some other place.

One afternoon the opportunity came. She was suspected of writing unapproved, illicit notes to someone outside the institution. One of the little girls had just reported, "I saw her write a note and hide it on a tree near the stone wall."

The superintendent hurried to the tree and found the note. He then passed it silently to his assistant. The note read, "To whoever finds this, I love you."

In essence, someone else also wrote a note and put it on a tree outside a city wall at another place a long time ago. Of Him, too, it was written "He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men" Isaiah 53:2, 3, NIV.

They sought to get rid of Jesus. They took him out to Calvary’s hill where they crucified him. They nailed him to a tree. But when men get there, they find a note on that tree that reads, "To whoever finds this, I love you."

Here's a picture of the clubhouse on Thanksgiving Day as we all got together and shared a Thanksgiving meal.  I was asked to bless the meal before we ate.

Here's LaVon and Ann, who sat by LaVon. They are now friends.  Ann loved having her picture made with LaVon and was very impressed that LaVon took this picture.
Have a great day, love you, pass it on.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We had 36 in church Sunday. God continues to be faithful. Our thanks to each of you for your prayers and support.

Yesterday held such a blessing for us. We went to Arizona City and met with a Bible study group we have been a part of in past years. What joy to see old friends once again. Later, we were invited for dinner at Sunscape RV Resort and as usual we saw several people and were blessed once again. We never have time to see all there that mean so much to us.

In my reading this week was this, from The Sower:

A THANKFUL HEART

Mary Jo was unable to attend school because of her mumps. Realizing how uncomfortable she was, her mother wanted her to forget her pain and think of something pleasant. After reading a story from the Bible, her Mom said, “What shall we thank Jesus for this morning?”
“My mumps!” came the quick reply.
“Your mumps? Why thank God for your mumps?” wondered her mother.
“Because now He can heal me,” Mary Jo said confidently.

Every problem we encounter, every fear we face, every pain we have and every obstacle that comes into our lives provides an opportunity for God to show His power. It does not matter what it is, where it came from or how long we think it will last, we have His Word that His power will eventually
deliver us and set us free.

Paul said, “How we thank God who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

What a loving God we have. Here Paul wants us to express our gratitude to a God Who gives us victory over sin and death. It does not say that He might or could or would if we never disobey Him. No, indeed not. It says He gives - and there are no strings attached.

Here is our God - standing with outstretched arms, open hands and listening ears ready to respond to our every need. He is worthy of our thanks and praise.

Prayer: We take great comfort, Lord, knowing that whatever concerns us concerned You first. We thank You for giving us victory over sin and life everlasting. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today:
But thanks be to God, who gives us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
                             - 1 Corinthians 15:57
LaVon and I are truly thankful to God for each of you.

We had a guest this week so I am running behind, but our visit was so good. Our little church grew by 3 again this week. I ask you to continue to pray for us. We are so thankful for each of you, for your prayers, visits, phone calls and your financial gifts; without these we couldn't do what we do.

Keeping theme with this blog title, in my reading this week was this from The Sower:

THE GIFT OF ADVERSITY

A botanist once said that trees need the March winds. When asked why, he replied, “It is the winds that cause the trunks of trees to ‘flex’ and the branches to  ‘sway.’ As the tree is ‘shaken’ it draws the sap up to nourish the new growth and sprouting leaves.”
James must have wanted us to understand that “trouble” in the life of the Christian has its value. He wrote, “...whenever trouble comes your way let it be an opportunity for joy!” He did not say, “If trouble comes your way...” And he did not say, “Should you happen to encounter any trouble in life...” No. He
most assuredly says “whenever trouble comes your way” as though it is certain to happen. No doubt each of us can verify the fact that “trouble” comes with life!
However, along with the promise of “trouble” coming into our lives, James tells how we are to respond: “Let it be an opportunity for joy!” In other words, take advantage of the troubles in life and maintain a positive attitude!

So, instead of pouting and asking why, James would encourage us to ask, “Lord, how can I take what You have brought into my life and use it to help others?”
How, after I have endured a great loss in my life, I can more easily understand the pain of one who is grieving and truly grieve with them. If my family and I have experienced the pain and anguish of cancer, I can walk and weep with those who are traveling this valley.

Prayer: Father, whenever we experience problems give us optimism and a cause for joy knowing that what comes into our lives is a gift from You to serve others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today:

James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

LaVon and I are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Without any of these we could not continue what God has called us to do and that is to share the Living Water with this thirsty world through the RV ministry.

Have a great day, love you, pass it on.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We had 25 people there this past SundayMay we continue to grow and reach this community. May we not lose site of who we are and what we are to be doing.

In my reading this week was this from The Sower

BACK TO THE BASICS

A once successful football team experienced several successive losing seasons. The fans were unhappy and many stopped attending their games. So the owner decided it was time for a new coach. After a lengthy search, he located a leader whom he felt was up to the challenge - one who could inspire the players.
At the team’s first meeting he stood before the players and said, “Gentlemen, we are going back to the basics. We are going to start at the beginning.”
“This is a football,” he said forcefully - making certain that each of them knew how serious he was.

“Basics” are important for any endeavor in life. They provide the foundation for growth and expansion. They assure stability in times of distress and doubt and direction when the path seems uncertain.
They enable one generation to pass on a heritage of guidance and hope to another and give structure to families and institutions.
Paul passed on a “basic” to young Timothy. He gave him a “solemn warning before God” to be faithful in his responsibilities to Christ.
“Preach the Word!” he wrote. “Be persistent whether it is convenient or not. Patiently correct and encourage your people with good teaching,” he concluded.
That “warning” has never been more important than it is now. We who are His disciples must be willing to listen, hear, obey and follow His “basic” teachings.

Prayer: It is so easy, Father, to forget what matters most in life. Help us to accept and follow the “basics” of Your Word and live lives that are pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long suffering and teaching.- 2 Timothy 4:1-2

LaVon and I are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Without any of these we could not continue what God has called us to do and that is to share the living water with the world through the RV ministry.

Have a great day, love you, pass it on.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We had 22 people there this Sunday. I pray the church here continues to grow and reach this community. My sermon this week is on prayer. I urge each of us to be in prayer for our nation, for loved ones and those that are hurting.

In my reading this week was this from The Sower:

THE VALUE OF A “DEAF EAR”

Matt came home from school with a note from his teacher. He had misbehaved in class and the teacher wanted his mother to know what he had done.
After reading the note his mother said, “Son, why did you trip James as he was walking to his desk?”
“It wasn’t my idea, Mom. It was Donald’s,” he responded quickly.
“Now, Matt, you know that Donald can’t make you do anything,” replied his mother.
“Well,” he said after a moment’s thought, “it must have been the devil that made me do it.”
“Son, shame on you. You know that when the devil tempts you, it is important to turn a deaf ear,” she admonished him.
He put one finger in his left ear and listened to the sound coming from the TV and shook his head. Then he put a finger in his right ear and listened to the sound once again. After a moment he looked up at his Mom and said smilingly, “Mom, I don’t have a deaf ear.”

Temptation comes at us from every direction all of the time. It could be something we see or hear or think we would enjoy eating. But James had the best way to end being tempted: “Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw close to God and God will draw close to you.” Such a simple solution that it is amusing!
But it is neither simple nor amusing. Getting close to God takes time and the devil cleverly sets our priorities.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to take control of our time and our lives by “seeking first the Kingdom of God.” May each day begin with Your Word and prayer. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: James 4:7-8 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We had our first service Sunday with 15 people attending. I preached on encouragement, how to encourage others. After the service a man came to me and said “Well pastor that was a warm sermon.” I thought that was a strange thing to say but I said “thank you but what did you mean?” He replied “ not so hot.”

I couldn't help but smile.  Maybe he didn't get what the sermon was about.

I want to thank you for your support, by your prayers, calls to encourage us, and your gifts that make it possible for us to be here to share Christ with this park.

In my reading this week was this devotional:

Grow Spiritually through Ministry
As a young boy growing up on a farm in rural Mississippi, my mom taught me to minister in simple ways. On the occasions that we would go to the small town nearby, she would always have me gather a bouquet of flowers to take to a widow, or a sick person, or just to say "thank you" for being my teacher, leader, or pastor.

This practice became a joy as people decades older than I gave a genuine smile, words of appreciation, and spoke words of encouragement into my life.

We make ministry so organized and methodical...even laborious. God blesses the acts of kindness in His name. He can use informal personal touch ministry and formal structured ministry for His glory. He wants to use you as a missionary in ministry.

Give a cup of water in His name, and go ahead, make disciples.

Matthew 28:19 - 20 (ASV) 19 Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

We are in back in Apache Junction, Arizona. We had a great week with LaVon's family celebrating the wedding of her great-niece in Seattle, Washington. Now it is time to get to work; we start church this Sunday. Thank you for your prayers.

In my reading this week was this:

NO ENEMIES YET, PASTOR

Six-year-old George listened very attentively to his pastor’s sermon. As he and his father were leaving church he said, “Pastor, I heard you say that I should love my enemies. I’m only six and I don’t have any. But I hope to have some next year when I’m seven.”

Individuals tend to become enemies when they cannot agree on an issue or a course of action or a goal. The differences become insurmountable, positions harden and opinions become set in stone. We might well say that enemies are “made.” Unfortunately, it is easy to make them and they usually last a life time. On the other hand, friendships are formed when individuals have common likes and dislikes, goals and values. There are “common denominators” that draw them together and a sense of mutual trust.

And we read in Proverbs, “A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in times of need.”

Perhaps the greatest part of friendship is loyalty - standing with or along side of someone when they are enduring times of distress or disappointment, sickness or struggles that never seem to end. When there are “calm seas and gentle winds” carrying us along life’s journey, we can pretty much make it on our own.

But when the waves are crashing and the winds are howling - that’s when we discover the true meaning of friendship and loyalty. There seems to be nothing as valuable as a friend. We need to make more of them!

Thank you for being our friend.

Prayer: Help us, Lord, to reach out and make friends with those who are our sisters and brothers in Christ so that we may grow together in loyalty and service. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: Proverbs 17:17 "A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity."

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We are in Apache Junction, Arizona. We told them in Monday morning meeting that Church services will begin on the 21st of October at 10:00 a.m. and are still in need of someone to play the piano and people to sing in the choir. Please, keep us in your prayers.

In my reading this morning:

AN ATTITUDE FOR GRATITUDE

          NOW OR NEVER

A soldier was assigned the responsibility of driving a senator from the airport to a military installation. Between the baggage claim area and the vehicle he noticed an elderly lady struggling to pull her
suitcase behind her. He immediately went to her rescue and pulled the suitcase until they met her waiting family. He then paused to help a young mother secure her child in a stroller. After that he
helped a man who was having a difficult time opening the door to the restroom.

Impressed, the senator asked, “How is it that you see so many people who need help and immediately go to their rescue?”
After a moment of silence he replied quietly, “During my tour of duty in Vietnam it was my job to clear minefields. I never knew if my next step would be my last. It was there that I learned to get the most out of every moment because, in life, it’s now or never.”

Paul summed it up this way: “Share each other’s troubles and problems because if you do so you will obey the law of Christ.”

We, as Christians, have a responsibility to God and to anyone we know who is faced with a difficult situation that is beyond their ability to manage. It can be as simple as opening a door or as complex as helping them through the loss of a loved one. The size of the problem does not matter to God. It is the willingness of His children to help those in need.

Prayer:

We pray, Lord, for eyes that see the needs of others, ears that hear the cries of others, a heart that is open to others and hands that are willing to help others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: Galatians 6:2 - Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We are in Apache Junction, Az.  I can say we are already at work:  had a Monday morning park meeting and a hospital and home visit already. Thanks for your prayers as we traveled and for your continuing support and prayers. This season is going to be a challenge.

In my reading this morning was this that I would like to share with you:

AN ATTITUDE FOR GRATITUDE

James and his grandmother were having a wonderful day at the beach. The wind was gentle, the sun warm and the crowd friendly. It was a delight for her to watch James as he splashed in the waves not far from where she was relaxing. Suddenly a large wave came crashing over James and pulled him into the water and out of her sight. In fear and anguish she shouted, "Oh, God, I'll do anything You ever ask me if You will only save my grandson and return him safely to shore. Please God - help me."

The very next wave brought James back to shore safely, but a bit frightened. Standing up and walking toward him, his grandmother gave a sigh of relief knowing he was safe. Then she put her hands on her hips and said,

"O.K. God. What happened to his hat?"

Paul wrote,

"Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart."

It seems to be much easier to "devote ourselves to prayer" than to "devote ourselves to a thankful heart." Giving thanks to someone means we are indebted to them for something.

Our God is a gracious and giving God and all that we have is the result of His goodness and grace. He stands before us with outstretched arms and open hands waiting to draw us close to Himself to protect us and provide for our every need, beginning with our salvation. Yet, too often we fail to be grateful!

Prayer:

Forgive us, Heavenly Father, if we have been forgetful in expressing our gratitude to You for all You have done for us. May our thankfulness be equal to Your gifts. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today:

Colossians 4:2  Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;

Sunday’s Coming

Good Morning,

We are just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico. It rained last night and may rain today, as well. I think we will stay put a few days and enjoy.

In my reading this morning was this:

The Tip

By Leslie Snyder

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Consider the following story:

Years ago, a 10-year old boy approached the counter of a soda shop and climbed onto a stool. “What does an ice cream sundae cost?” he asked the waitress.

“Fifty cents,” she answered.

The youngster reached deep in his pockets and pulled out an assortment of change, counting it carefully as the waitress grew impatient. She had “bigger” customers to wait on.

“Well, how much would just plain ice cream be?” the boy asked.

The waitress responded with noticeable irritation in her voice, “Thirty-five cents.”

Again, the boy slowly counted his money. “May I have some plain ice cream in a dish then, please?” He gave the waitress the correct amount, and she brought him the ice cream.

Later, the waitress returned to clear the boy’s dish and when she picked it up, she felt a lump form in her throat. There on the counter the boy had left two nickels and five pennies. She realized that he had had enough money for the sundae, but sacrificed it so that he could leave her a tip.

A generous heart is a rare gift indeed. How often is it easier to hold on to what we think we need instead of remembering to be generous? The child in the story above could easily justify buying a sundae, running over with his favorite toppings and topped with frothy whipped cream and a cherry. After all, he’s just a kid. Nobody expects him to leave a tip. But somewhere, someone taught him to think not only of himself, but of others, and to show that thoughtfulness in a tangible way. Generous living invites those around us to pause long enough to notice something different. It is the way of the believer and it is the way of Christ.

Don

PS.. Don’t miss the post “In Response, below.”

In response….

… to last week’s Sunday’s Coming, LaVon received an email from her cousin in Texas.  What a blessing and encouragement this was to us and we pray it will encourage you, as well.

LaVon,

As I was reading Don's message in Sunday's Coming this morning, it reminded me of a simple thing that happened to me about 20 years ago, but I will never forget it because it impressed on me the same message Don was telling us.

As a country girl that had never experienced a true 'big city' environment, when I had to leave this small town and go to work in downtown Dallas, it was more traumatizing than I expected (or showed to anybody else).  I would spend most of my lunchtimes eating my sandwich at Thanksgiving Square which, even though in the heart of downtown, was set in a small valley surrounded by waterfalls, grass & trees, birds chirping, and a chapel at one end.  It also had Bible verses carved into the high walls that surrounded the 'valley'.  The 'valley', walls, and waterfalls shut out all the sounds of the city traffic.  It gave me peace to be there.

On the days that weather or time constraints did not permit me to go there, I would sit in a corner of a small waiting area outside in the hall next to the elevators.  People would come and go, but didn't bother you.  What I haven't mentioned yet was that I almost always had my Bible with me and would read while I was there.  This was part of the peace I mentioned earlier.

Among the approximately 300-400 people that worked in the same area, I knew the people who worked in my immediate group, but few of the others.  One day I was sitting in my cubicle and a complete stranger came in.  She said, "Some of us were discussing something from the Bible and couldn't agree on it and we knew that you had your Bible with you and were wondering if you would mind if we borrowed it for a few minutes?"  Of course, I gave it to them.  After that, there were a couple of other times when people I didn't know would ask to borrow my Bible for a while.

The point is ... I felt alone, a stranger in a strange place, wondering why I had ended up having to come to that place.  I was so touched by the fact that complete strangers had thought about me, sought me out when they needed the word of God, by having simply seen me reading my Bible.

Over the next ten years, I had other opportunities to witness to people who had life problems that were so much more difficult than anything I could imagine.  The saddest was a young man who came to talk to me because he couldn't talk to anyone else at work.  He was leaving to go back home to his family ... he was dying of AIDS.  I held his hands, we cried together, and we prayed together.  Maybe I made a difference in their lives, maybe I didn't.  But had I not been there, I like to think that there are some people that would have had a more difficult time in that part of their lives.

Don's message is so true .... you never know who you may touch, no matter how small or how much.  We are all a witness to others of what we believe, or don't believe.  And, when God puts you somewhere or in some situation that makes you wonder 'why?', if we put ourselves in His hands, we have nothing to fear.

God Bless You Both!

I love you,

Jan

Sunday’s Coming

Good Morning,

We are just outside Colorado Springs.  The evenings are cool but we are still having trouble breathing in this altitude. Pray for us.

In my reading this morning was this, by A Word for You Today:

“What you say can mean life or death.” Proverbs 18:21 NCV

To honor her students, a teacher gave each a ribbon that stated, “Who I am makes a difference,” and asked them to pass it along to someone who’d made a difference in their lives. One kid gave his to a young executive who helped him plan his career. He in turn gave it to his boss, who was hard to get along with. He told him how much he’d been influenced by his creativity, and asked him to give the ribbon to somebody he admired. That night the boss told his fourteen-year-old son, “I’ve thought about who I want to honor—and it’s you. My days are hectic, and I’m always complaining about your grades and your messy bedroom. Tonight I want to let you know the difference you’ve made in my life. Besides your mother, you’re the most important person I know, and I love you.”

Fighting back tears, the boy replied, “Earlier today I wrote a letter explaining why I’d taken my life, and asking you to forgive me. I was going to do it when everybody was asleep. I didn’t think you’d care. I guess I won’t need the letter now.”

Upstairs in his son’s room the father found the anguish-filled note beside a loaded gun.

God can help you to “speak a word in season to him who is weary” (Isa 50:4 NKJV). Words change lives: “What you say can mean life or death.” So go out of your way today to speak words of encouragement to somebody you don’t normally think about. “A word spoken at the right moment—how good it is!” (Proverbs 15:23 AMP).

Sunday’s Coming

Good Morning,

We are just outside Colorado Springs. The evenings are cool but we are having trouble breathing in this altitude.  Please pray for us.

In my reading this morning was this, by The Sower:

DIG DEEPER!

Henry was caught up in the gold rush. Shortly after arriving in California he found a mine, staked a claim and began digging. One day he found some ore, became excited, and believed he had struck it rich. He knew without any doubt that fame and fortune would soon be his. He kept digging for a few weeks but eventually became discouraged and wanted to quit. Finally, a stranger approached him and offered to purchase his mine. In a moment of frustration he agreed to sell his rights for $11,000.00.
The new owner was excited about his purchase and began to dig where Henry stopped. And he kept digging for years and years. Eventually the Comstock Mine produced 340 million dollars of gold!

Wanting to encourage the church in Galatia, the Apostle Paul wrote, "So don't get tired of doing what is good. Don't get discouraged and give up for we will reap a harvest of blessings at the appropriate time."

We have all faced those times in our lives when we become discouraged and distressed at doing what we believe is the right thing to do. No one offers a word of thanks or encouragement and there are no visible results to accompany our hard work. But Paul reminds us to keep on doing good and to trust God for the results. Giving in or giving up or giving out is the sure way to forfeit the blessing that God will award us for being faithful.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we be faithful to You in what You ask us to do. Protect us from allowing discouragement to destroy us and doubt to defeat us. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Sunday’s Coming

Good Morning,

We are just outside Omaha. We leave tomorrow headed west, keep us in your prayers as we travel.

In my reading this morning was the following (if you have ever been in church with us you will recognize the scripture): by The Sower:

LET GOD BE THE JUDGE

Young Anthony was ending his prayers before leaving for school. “And, finally God, thank You for this beautiful day that You have given us.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
“But, Anthony,” protested his mother, “this is not going to be a beautiful day. There are large thunderstorms approaching.”
“I know, Mom,” replied Anthony. “Never judge a day by its weather,” he said as he ran out the door.

The Psalmist proclaimed, “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!”

Sometimes when we get half way through a day we feel that there is nothing to rejoice about or to be thankful for. Our problems mount and their solutions evade us. Our plans are interrupted by meaningless demands that make no sense at all. Our decisions seem to be wrong no matter how hard we tried to get them right. Our sorrow overwhelms us and our guilt appears beyond His forgiveness. What then? Rejoice?
Makes no sense to most people.
But according to the Psalmist, that’s the thing to do.

Prayer: Thank You, God, for always being with us in all of our difficulties. Help us to hear Your voice and to accept Your grace as a solution to our problems. May we Praise You Today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today:

Psalm 118:24-28 ~ This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We are in Kansas City, Kansas, visiting great friends we met in our first park in Arizona. They have been the good host and hostess and showed us the sites of Kansas City. We leave tomorrow for Omaha and then west. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel.

In my reading this morning was this by The Sower:

I can't help but think of our friends in Norman that lost everything in the fire

GOD BLESS OUR BUMPS

Little Martha was in a hurry to run out the door so she would not be late for school. In her haste she tripped and fell, hitting her head on the floor. Immediately, a bump appeared and frightened her. As the
tears ran down her cheeks she climbed into her mother’s arms to be comforted.
Her Mom, holding her tightly, placed a cold pad on the lump and said, “Let’s pray and ask Jesus to heal you so you can go to school.”
Soon the tears stopped, Martha left her mother’s lap, stood up and said, “Jesus healed me. Now I can go to school.”
That night when they knelt to pray the mother asked, “What do you want to thank Jesus for tonight.”
“My bump,” answered Martha quickly. “Because now I know He loves me because He made my bump go away.”

“Whenever trouble comes your way,” wrote James, “let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has an opportunity to grow.”

In the life of every Christian, there is always a connection between the problem and the promise, between the hardship and the hope.
James reminds us to turn our difficulties into optimism and to have a positive outlook for life. Troubles are not an end in themselves. If we are willing to work with God, He can teach us perseverance.

Prayer: May we understand and accept, Father, that “whatever comes our way” is for our good and that we can profit from every hardship as we learn to trust You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: James 1:2 -- My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. (title of this blog)

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We are still in Tulsa, Oklahoma, having a good time with family but it is very, very hot.  112 degrees yesterday.

In my reading this morning was this: by The Sower:

PROFIT AND LOSS

It was one of those days when nothing seemed to go right at work. Ralph had lost sale after sale and was three hours late for his lunch. He sat down on his favorite stool in his favorite diner waiting to place his order. When the waitress asked for his order, he said meekly, “Please, I like two things:
an order of pot roast and a few kind words.”
Looking at him kindly, she replied, “The kindest words I can think of right now are, ‘don’t order the pot roast.’“
Offering “kind words” is the responsibility of every Christian every day. Everyone we meet needs words of strength, hope and encouragement to meet the challenges they face. Life for most of us has various shades of difficulty each day.

But what are the kindest words we can ever offer anyone? I Love You! Or:

Perhaps they are these:
“Don’t forget the next world while living in this one.”

It is possible for each of us to put our values on the wrong things. No one is immune from being caught up in the moment when we are vulnerable and weak. How sad it will be if we live our lives and, at the last moment, discover life’s greatest mistake: we did not include God in our plans.

Jesus asked, “How do you benefit anything if you gain the whole world and lose your own soul?”

Prayer: We pray, Lord, that we will recognize our greatest need: first to accept You as our Savior and then to bring others to a knowledge of Your saving grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: Mark 8:34-38 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

LaVon and I are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Without any of these we could not continue what God has called us to do and that is to share the living water with the world through the RV ministry.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We are in Tulsa, Oklahoma, having a good time with family.

In my reading this morning was this: by "Word for You Today"

“Look for the best in each other.” 1 Thess 5:15

V. J. Smith writes: “I don’t remember the date I met Marty. Like a lot of people…the line I was in wasn’t moving as quickly as I wanted and I glanced towards the cashier…an affable-looking man in his seventies. I thought, ‘Well, he’s an old guy and it probably takes him longer’…For the next few minutes I watched him. He greeted every customer with the usual ‘How’s it going?’ Then he did something different—he actually listened.

You don’t give much thought to the question. I could say, ‘I just found out I’ve six months to live,’ and someone would reply, ‘Have a great day!’

The old cashier walked round to the customers, extended his hand, looked them in the eye and said, ‘I want to thank you for shopping here today. Have a great day.’ The looks on their faces were priceless. There were smiles and sheepish grins. All had been touched by this simple gesture…Some walked away, paused…and looked back…they couldn’t quite comprehend what had just happened…I wanted to take him home and feed him cookies!…I’d been in that store a hundred times and never walked away feeling like that.”

A marriage counselor asked a couple to list each others good qualities. The husband listed twelve. His wife couldn’t think of any! The Bible says, “Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.”

That’s hard to do when you’re looking for perfection and focusing on the other person’s shortcomings. The Bible says, “Love…keeps no record of wrongs” (1Co 13:4-5 NIV).

In other words, look for the best in them!

How are you doing in this today?

LaVon and I are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

Today is our last day here in Norman.  We will leave tomorrow for Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In my reading this morning was this:

The Treasure Waiting to Be Opened
  by Adrian Rogers

“I rejoice at Thy word, as one that finds great spoil.” - Psalm 119:162

Have you ever found a dollar bill on the sidewalk? Did you leave it there? You probably picked it up, maybe asked people around you if it was theirs, and if it wasn’t, maybe you rejoiced a little, hmm?

Now, what happens with your Bible? You see it sitting on your desk and say, “Oh, the Bible is a wonderful book filled with good things for my life.” But what good is it going to do to just say nice things about the Bible? A dime and a gold Krugerrand are both of the same value when they are corroding on the ocean floor.

The promises in God’s Word are of no value, unless you dig down deep and appropriate them into your life.

My prayer for you today and every day is that you read your Bible.

We are in Norman, Oklahoma. Happy Fourth of July!

I read the following today and wanted to share. From the Sower:

FREE FROM FEAR

The word “freedom” carries with it the idea of being free from any restraints or not being bound by any regulations, rules or requirements. Many long to live a life with no obligations,
no opposition or no oppression.Yet all of life is wrapped with boundaries of one nature or
another. Highways are divided by traffic lanes, stop signs, caution signs, turning lanes and many other constraints. Every athletic contest or sporting event has specific lines, certain types
of equipment or clothing and regulations to control the activities of the participants. Even something as simple as boiling water has specific criteria.
Rarely, if ever, do we pause to consider all of life’s limits. We take for granted the ability to move about at will, make independent choices and manage our own affairs. But does moving and choosing
and managing make us free? Not really. They still involve constraints in the final analysis. Where, then, do we find freedom?
Paul said, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” God, through Christ, offers us the priceless gift of living each day free from destroying ourselves and free for being who He wants us to be and doing what He has created us to do. But we must allow His Spirit to direct us along the path He has laid out for us. We can only be free if we have accepted the forgiveness of God through Christ.

Prayer: Lord, may we not fool ourselves into thinking we are free if we are enslaved by sin and have not been forgiven. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Scripture for Today: 2 Corinthians 3:17 - Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

We are still in Waco, Texas, and it is still hot.

I read the following today and wanted to share. From The Sower:

HOW MUCH GOOD SHOULD WE HAVE?

It was the first parent-teacher conference of the year. Mrs. Adams was a bit fearful as she entered her son’s classroom. Seated across from her son’s teacher she did not know what to expect.
“Mrs. Adams,” she began, “it is a delight to have your son as a student in my class. He is so good!”
“My son?” gasped Mrs. Adams. She was shocked beyond belief.
“Yes. Charles is a model student, “ the teacher continued.
Then, turning to her son, Mrs. Adams said to Charles, “Your teacher said that you are a good student. Even a model student. Why can’t you be good at home?”
“Well, Mom,” he replied slowly, “I only got so much goodness in me and I decided to use it in school.”

Goodness is an expression of “God-like-ness” that should reside inside of every believer and find its way outside of us in showing God’s grace to others. God-like-ness should come easily, naturally and constantly in our relationships with others.

As we become more of who God wants us to be, we must allow Him to move freely in us and through us. As we sense His love flooding into our hearts, showing God-like-ness should not be something we force ourselves to do. Rather, it is something we do without even thinking about it because we are a child of God.

Scripture for Today:
    Galatians 6:10
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

We are still in Waco, Texas.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Hebrews 12:1
I’m not sure about you, but there are many days when I feel unworthy of my calling as a Christian.

I read this today and it’s a great reminder for us all. Someone needs to read this today!

No More Excuses
   (Author Unknown)

The next time you feel like God can’t use you, just remember:
  • Noah was a drunk
  • Abraham was too old
  • Isaac was a daydreamer
  • Jacob was a liar
  • Leah was ugly
  • Joseph was abused
  • Moses had a stuttering problem
  • Gideon was afraid
  • Samson had long hair and was a womanizer
  • Rahab was a prostitute
  • Jeremiah and Timothy were too young
  • David had an affair and was a murderer
  • Elijah was suicidal
  • Isaiah preached naked
  • Jonah ran from God
  • Naomi was a widow
  • Job went bankrupt
  • Peter denied Christ
  • The Disciples fell asleep while praying
  • Martha worried about everything
  • The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once
  • Zaccheus was too small
  • Paul was too religious
  • Timothy had an ulcer AND
  • Lazarus was dead!

Now! No more excuses!
God can use you to your full potential.
Besides you aren't the message, you are just the messenger.

1. What types of excuses have you relied upon to suggest that God can’t use you?

LaVon and I are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Without any of these we could not continue what God has called us to do and that is to share the living water with the world through the RV ministry.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning

We are in Waco, Texas.

During my reading this morning, this touched me. This is by Charles Stanley:

Dying to Be a Servant, A Parable

John 12:23-26
23 Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory.24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.25 Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.26 Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

Once upon a time there were two grains of wheat lying on the floor of a warm and cozy barn. But one day, the farmer came in and told them, "I want to take you out of this comfortable barn and plant you in the earth. I'm going to place you in the cold ground and cover you with soil. It will be dark, and you will die. But I promise that you will multiply and become very fruitful."

The first grain of wheat turned down the suggestion. "No way!" he said. "Count me out. I like my comfort, and I don't want to die." But the second one, after carefully considering the pain and discomfort of dying, decided the promise of a future harvest was worth the sacrifice. So the farmer took him outside and planted him in the ground, while allowing the first grain of wheat to remain inside the barn.

A few days later, a small green sprout appeared over where the seed had been planted. Then it grew and became a tall stalk of wheat that produced one hundred more grains. For the next forty years, the farmer planted all the seeds that had originated from that first grain of wheat, and year after year, the harvest multiplied. However, the grain of wheat that stayed in the barn remained there by itself, never multiplying--but he was very comfortable.

Which grain of wheat are you? Are you playing it safe, or have you let Christ plant you in the world? The only way you'll ever become useful and fruitful in God's kingdom is to abandon your own selfish desires, get out of your comfort zone, and serve the Lord by serving others.

We are in Waco, Texas, not in the UK. Sorry for the email yesterday.  Someone hacked my Yahoo account. Good did come from it though, I heard from so many of you. Thanks for caring.

During my reading this morning, this touched me.

Be Alert!

“But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:8

A preacher friend was walking away from another friend when this friend called out to him,

“Well, so long! Love God. Hate sin. And watch out for trucks!”

Now, that’s good advice. Trucks will hurt you if they hit you. It doesn’t matter whether you’re saved or lost.

We all need to love God. We all need to hate sin. But I want to tell you we are also human and we need to watch out for the things in life that may hurt us. God has given us the mind of Christ and we need to use that mind (see 1 Corinthians 2:16).

Is your head in the clouds today? Are you alert to the things of this world that could harm you? Be sober. Be alert. And watch out for trucks! ~  Adrian Rogers

Sunday’s Coming

Good Morning,

Greetings from the Texas Hill Country.

I have been reading a book by Jim Cymbala, You Were Made For More.  Yesterday, the chapter I read, “What’s Up With This?” made me really think.  It brought back memories of my basketball days, especially the beginning of the season.  The first practice was nothing but running.  We ran laps, bleachers, and what we called suicide drills where you start on the end line and ran to the the free throw line backwards.  We ran to the end line, then to the mid court line and back to the end line. Oh my!  Just thinking of this makes me hurt.  The next morning I hurt in places I didn’t even know I had.

This gave us a great foundation when games started.  We were in shape.

Hardships, trials and hurts produce a solid foundation in our soul.

Jesus told his followers that a life of faith would not be easy.

John 16:33 (NLT) – “ I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Jesus is saying that God will accomplish his purposes, regardless of the disappointments and bumps that life brings our way

Trials are a part of the Christian life.  God shows us how to avoid some of them, but he walks through others right along beside us.

Praise the LORD!

1 Thessalonians 3:1-4 (NLT)

3 Finally, when we could stand it no longer, we decided to stay alone in Athens, 2 and we sent Timothy to visit you. He is our brother and God’s co-worker in proclaiming the Good News of Christ. We sent him to strengthen you, to encourage you in your faith, 3 and to keep you from being shaken by the troubles you were going through. But you know that we are destined for such troubles. 4 Even while we were with you, we warned you that troubles would soon come—and they did, as you well know.

Sunday's Coming

As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open.

The old man was looking at the engine. I put my groceries away in my car, and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away. I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too, and took a few steps towards him. I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something. The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new Cadillac Escalade. He then turned back to the old man. I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying:

'You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age.'

And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot.

I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief, and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine. He then went to his wife and spoke with her; he appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough, and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight, and as I got near him I said, 'Looks like you're having a problem.'

He smiled sheepishly, and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself, and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me.

Looking around, I saw a gas station up the road, and I told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and went I inside. I saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them, and related the problem the old man had with his car. I offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him.

The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine), I spoke with the old gentleman.

When I shook hands with him earlier, he had noticed my Marine Corps ring and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, 'What outfit did you serve with?'

He said that he served with the first Marine Division at Guadalcanal Pelieliu, and Okinawa .  He had hit three of the worst ones, and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me. I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card.

He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it, and I stuck it in my pocket. We all shook hands all around again, and I said my goodbye's to his wife.

I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the station. Once at the station, I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me.

One of them pulled out a card from his pocket, looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off.

For some reason I had gone about two blocks, when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time.

The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name was written: 'Congressional Medal of Honor Society.'

I sat there motionless, looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage, and an honor to have been in his presence.

Remember, as we approach another Memorial Day, OLD men like him gave you, and all of us, FREEDOM for America .

Thanks to those who served and still serve, and to all of those who supported them, and who continue to support them.

America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the Mall.

Remember, Freedom isn't Free. Thousands have paid the price, so that you can enjoy what you have today.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We had another great Sunday here at Kerrville, Texas. We had a small attendance but a great time in God's word. This is the day the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it!... Your turn!

As I was reading this morning, the following spoke to my heart and I want to share this devotional from David Jeremiah.

"These Kids Need Jesus"
They were hearing only, "He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy." And they glorified God in me. ~ Galatians 1:23-24
During the hippy movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s, Pastor Chuck Smith of Costa Mesa, California, initially thought the dropouts and drug addicts just needed to cut their hair and get a job.
But his wife grew burdened for their spiritual condition. Seeing them wandering aimlessly on the streets, she said, "Honey, these kids need Jesus."
Eventually a longhaired kid with a beard and bells on his cuffs ended up at the Smith's home, where he stayed a month, and that started a new ministry for Smith, his family, and church. It could be marked as the beginning of the "Jesus Movement." Eventually thousands of young people came to the Lord, and from them a new era of praise and worship music was launched that is still affecting the church today.
When God opens an opportunity to serve Him, it might start with just one person. Don't miss that opportunity, and don't underestimate how God can multiply your efforts through that one for whom He gives you a burden.
The only thing that is secure and stable in this world is our faith in Jesus Christ. It is causing a real renewal.Chuck Smith

We had a great Sunday here at Kerrville, Texas. We had a small attendance but a great time in God's word. God is good! All the time!... Your turn!
As I was reading this morning I want to share this devotional from "the sower."

START WHERE YOU ARE!

A pastor once thought that it was his responsibility to change the world. For years he struggled and worked. He finally became so discouraged that he decided to quit. In a moment of insight, he decided to utilize a new strategy. “I’ll change my Elders. That’s the place for me to begin.” But he soon realized that this was not going to happen. Their resistance was fierce and he soon gave up.
“Since they didn’t respond,” he said to himself, “I’ll change my family.” That didn’t work either. Each evening when he laid out their tasks for the next day, they looked at him with blank stares.
Finally he identified his calling: “I must improve myself first and the others will follow.”

David got it right! He said, “Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my thoughts.”
It is much easier to look at the lives of others and see things that we think they need to change. It is also much easier to want to change them than to want to change ourselves. But seeing what needs to be changed in others and wanting to change them is not the way God works through us. He wants us to begin with ourselves - to see the sin that is in our lives - the sin that He sees. And when He removes the sin from our lives we become like Him, we will become an example for others to follow.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us not to be concerned about what others need to change in their lives, but what we need to change in our lives to be more like You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: Psalm 139:23-24 - Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We have made it to Kerrville, Texas!

I have been asked to do a short talk Friday morning, to a rally group here in the park and to preach on Sunday. God is good!

As I was reading this morning I want to share this devotional from "The Sower.”

WHAT’S IN A NUMBER?

When Harlan Sanders had turned forty he realized that he could not point to anything in his life that could be considered a success. Whatever he attempted to do, failed. One day someone said to him,
“Harlan, life begins at forty!” It jolted him in such away that it awakened his faith and he determined to begin again. After a time of prayer he decided to open a service station. Shortly after its opening he added a luncheonette. One of his meals was fried chicken. To make it tastier he came up with a “special” batter and called it the Harlan Sanders’ Kentucky Fried Chicken. People
enjoyed it so much that they soon recommended it to their friends. It brought him fame and fortune and the Governor of Kentucky made him a Kentucky Colonel. Soon people everywhere were buying the “Colonel’s” Kentucky Fried Chicken.

By God’s grace and the Colonel’s faith, what had been a life of failure and frustration became a life with a future and personal fulfillment. But his new life did not begin at forty. It began when God became a major part of his life’s “recipe.”
When God becomes the main “ingredient” in our life, everything will become new. With Him as the centerpiece and His Word as our guide, we can overcome any obstacle or difficulty that stands in the way of our success.

Prayer: Let us always remember, Lord, that all things are possible when we trust in You and desire to honor You with the gifts and talents You have given us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

PS from LaVon:
I find myself totally without adequate words to express my gratitude for all the love and prayers that have been sent my way during my time with Mama Trudy and at her Home Going.  I am blessed beyond measure to have had her as my mother.  The last four months God gave me to be with her  and fulfill my promise to her, will forever be among the most cherished times of my life.  I feel like I finally did something right.  It meant so much to her to have both of her children with her during her last months; she could not believe that God had blessed her in such a way as that.  Over and over, she thanked me for being there with her.  It was an utter joy to serve her and love her and care for her.  God called me to her side to be His arms, His hands, His feet, and His heart.  All glory to God.  I miss her and can not believe she is truly gone.  I really just thought she would be with me forever, but she's now experiencing total joy with our Savior and I am so happy for her.  Heaven just got even sweeter for me.

Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

I just want to take a moment and thank those of you who have sent cards and phoned regarding the passing of LaVon's mother. Your thoughtfulness is special to us. THANKS!

I was reading this morning and this was just too close to home, but I felt I should share. I almost left, but God pressed upon me to stay. WOW! Thank You, God.

Does Your Family Know You Love Them?
By Jim Burns
He will turn the hearts of the fathers [and mothers] to their children; and the hearts of the children to their fathers [and mothers]; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse. Malachi 4:6

My mother had been very sick with cancer. We knew she was going to die. Over the months of her sickness, my mom and I had some very special talks about life, God, and our family. My emotions were often raw. I would laugh harder and cry harder than I ever had before.

My mom’s body was shutting down. It was only a matter of time. Almost every day, I would find the time out of the busyness of life to sit with her, since she was confined to her hospice-care bed. That July, I was struggling with the idea of having to leave my mom’s bedside to go and speak to 6,000 students in Colorado at an international denominational youth event.

The day before I was to leave, my mom seemed to be doing better than she had for many weeks. She told me, “Go and speak to the kids, and I will be right here when you get back.” Hesitantly, I decided she was right. As I left the room she called out to me in a very weak voice, “Jimmy, I love you.”

“I love you too, Mom.”

I left for Colorado and spoke to the students. After the evening event at the conference, I came back to my hotel room, and there was a message to call my wife. Cathy told me that my mom had died.

I was crushed that I had not been there with her. After a restless night of thoughts, tears, and prayers, I left for the airport, and then it dawned on me. The last words my mother ever said to me were, “I love you, Jimmy.” The last words I ever said to her were “I love you too, Mom.” What a blessing!

How is your relationship with your family? Is there an atmosphere of love and warmth, or is there some hostility? Whatever your relationship is like with your family, the biblical mandate is to be loving and supportive. God’s vehicle for faith and love is often the family. Who do you need to say, “I love you” to today?

LaVon and I are truly thankful to God for each of you. Thank you for your continual support and interest in our ministry by investing yourself in many ways as partners with us: by prayer, e-mails, phone calls and your financial gifts. Without any of these we could not continue what God has called us to do and that is to share the living water with the world through the RV ministry.

Have a great day, love you, pass it on.
