Sunday's Coming

Good Morning,

We are in Tulsa, Oklahoma, having a good time with family.

In my reading this morning was this: by "Word for You Today"

“Look for the best in each other.” 1 Thess 5:15

V. J. Smith writes: “I don’t remember the date I met Marty. Like a lot of people…the line I was in wasn’t moving as quickly as I wanted and I glanced towards the cashier…an affable-looking man in his seventies. I thought, ‘Well, he’s an old guy and it probably takes him longer’…For the next few minutes I watched him. He greeted every customer with the usual ‘How’s it going?’ Then he did something different—he actually listened. 

You don’t give much thought to the question. I could say, ‘I just found out I’ve six months to live,’ and someone would reply, ‘Have a great day!’ 

The old cashier walked round to the customers, extended his hand, looked them in the eye and said, ‘I want to thank you for shopping here today. Have a great day.’ The looks on their faces were priceless. There were smiles and sheepish grins. All had been touched by this simple gesture…Some walked away, paused…and looked back…they couldn’t quite comprehend what had just happened…I wanted to take him home and feed him cookies!…I’d been in that store a hundred times and never walked away feeling like that.”

A marriage counselor asked a couple to list each others good qualities. The husband listed twelve. His wife couldn’t think of any! The Bible says, “Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.”

That’s hard to do when you’re looking for perfection and focusing on the other person’s shortcomings. The Bible says, “Love…keeps no record of wrongs” (1Co 13:4-5 NIV).

In other words, look for the best in them!

The Treasure Waiting to Be Opened
  by Adrian Rogers

“I rejoice at Thy word, as one that finds great spoil.” - Psalm 119:162

Have you ever found a dollar bill on the sidewalk? Did you leave it there? You probably picked it up, maybe asked people around you if it was theirs, and if it wasn’t, maybe you rejoiced a little, hmm?

Now, what happens with your Bible? You see it sitting on your desk and say, “Oh, the Bible is a wonderful book filled with good things for my life.” But what good is it going to do to just say nice things about the Bible? A dime and a gold Krugerrand are both of the same value when they are corroding on the ocean floor.

The promises in God’s Word are of no value, unless you dig down deep and appropriate them into your life.

My prayer for you today and every day is that you read your Bible.

We are in Norman, Oklahoma. Happy Fourth of July!

I read the following today and wanted to share. From the Sower:

FREE FROM FEAR

The word “freedom” carries with it the idea of being free from any restraints or not being bound by any regulations, rules or requirements. Many long to live a life with no obligations,
no opposition or no oppression.Yet all of life is wrapped with boundaries of one nature or
another. Highways are divided by traffic lanes, stop signs,caution signs, turning lanes and many other constraints. Every athletic contest or sporting event has specific lines, certain types
of equipment or clothing and regulations to control the activities of the participants. Even something as simple as boiling water has specific criteria.
Rarely, if ever, do we pause to consider all of life’s limits. We take for granted the ability to move about at will, make independent choices and manage our own affairs. But does moving and choosing
and managing make us free? Not really. They still involve constraints in the final analysis. Where, then, do we find freedom?
Paul said, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” God, through Christ, offers us the priceless gift of living each day free from destroying ourselves and free for being who He wants us to be and doing what He has created us to do. But we must allow His Spirit to direct us along the path He has laid out for us. We can only be free if we have accepted the forgiveness of God through Christ.

Prayer: Lord, may we not fool ourselves into thinking we are free if we are enslaved by sin and have not been forgiven. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Scripture for Today: 2 Corinthians 3:17 - Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

We are still in Waco, Texas, and it is still hot.

I read the following today and wanted to share. From The Sower:

HOW MUCH GOOD SHOULD WE HAVE?

    It was the first parent-teacher conference of the year. Mrs. Adams was a bit fearful as she entered her son’s classroom. Seated across from her son’s teacher she did not know what to expect.
    “Mrs. Adams,” she began, “it is a delight to have your son as a student in my class. He is so good!”
    “My son?” gasped Mrs. Adams. She was shocked beyond belief.
    “Yes. Charles is a model student, “ the teacher continued.
    Then, turning to her son, Mrs. Adams said to Charles, “Your teacher said that you are a good student. Even a model student. Why can’t you be good at home?”
    “Well, Mom,” he replied slowly, “I only got so much goodness in me and I decided to use it in school.”

Goodness is an expression of “God-like-ness” that should reside inside of every believer and find its way outside of us in showing God’s grace to others. God-like-ness should come easily, naturally and constantly in our relationships with others.

As we become more of who God wants us to be, we must allow Him to move freely in us and through us. As we sense His love flooding into our hearts, showing God-like-ness should not be something we force ourselves to do. Rather, it is something we do without even thinking about it because we are a child of God.

Scripture for Today:
    Galatians 6:10
    Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Good Morning,

We are still in Waco, Texas.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Hebrews 12:1

I’m not sure about you, but there are many days when I feel unworthy of my calling as a Christian.
 
I read this today and it’s a great reminder for us all. Someone needs to read this today!

• Jacob was a liar

• Joseph was abused
• Moses had a stuttering problem
• Gideon was afraid
• Samson had long hair and was a womanizer
• Rahab was a prostitute
• Jeremiah and Timothy were too young
• David had an affair and was a murderer
• Elijah was suicidal
• Isaiah preached naked
• Jonah ran from God
• Naomi was a widow
• Job went bankrupt
• Peter denied Christ
• The Disciples fell asleep while praying
• Martha worried about everything
• The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once
• Zaccheus was too small
• Paul was too religious
• Timothy had an ulcer AND 
• Lazarus was dead!

Now! No more excuses!
God can use you to your full potential.
Besides you aren't the message, you are just the messenger.

During my reading this morning, this touched me. This is by Charles Stanley:

Dying to Be a Servant, A Parable

John 12:23-26

23 Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory.24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.25 Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.26 Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

Once upon a time there were two grains of wheat lying on the floor of a warm and cozy barn. But one day, the farmer came in and told them, "I want to take you out of this comfortable barn and plant you in the earth. I'm going to place you in the cold ground and cover you with soil. It will be dark, and you will die. But I promise that you will multiply and become very fruitful."

The first grain of wheat turned down the suggestion. "No way!" he said. "Count me out. I like my comfort, and I don't want to die." But the second one, after carefully considering the pain and discomfort of dying, decided the promise of a future harvest was worth the sacrifice. So the farmer took him outside and planted him in the ground, while allowing the first grain of wheat to remain inside the barn.

A few days later, a small green sprout appeared over where the seed had been planted. Then it grew and became a tall stalk of wheat that produced one hundred more grains. For the next forty years, the farmer planted all the seeds that had originated from that first grain of wheat, and year after year, the harvest multiplied. However, the grain of wheat that stayed in the barn remained there by itself, never multiplying--but he was very comfortable.

Which grain of wheat are you? Are you playing it safe, or have you let Christ plant you in the world? The only way you'll ever become useful and fruitful in God's kingdom is to abandon your own selfish desires, get out of your comfort zone, and serve the Lord by serving others.

Good Morning

We are in Waco, Texas, not in the UK. Sorry for the email yesterday.  Someone hacked my Yahoo account. Good did come from it though, I heard from so many of you. Thanks for caring.

During my reading this morning, this touched me.

Be Alert!

“But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:8

A preacher friend was walking away from another friend when this friend called out to him,

“Well, so long! Love God. Hate sin. And watch out for trucks!” 

Now, that’s good advice. Trucks will hurt you if they hit you. It doesn’t matter whether you’re saved or lost.

We all need to love God. We all need to hate sin. But I want to tell you we are also human and we need to watch out for the things in life that may hurt us. God has given us the mind of Christ and we need to use that mind (see 1 Corinthians 2:16).

Is your head in the clouds today? Are you alert to the things of this world that could harm you? Be sober. Be alert. And watch out for trucks! ~  Adrian Rogers
